Great interview. I like Rob.

On a separate note- what’s this about a Sephardi paper?

I finished Rob's book though haven't had time to get to this podcast. I wish Rob much success. It won't fill the void but financial security will give you some measure of peace and allow you to provide for and help your family.

One thing that stuck out at me in your book was that social service deported your mother (presumably to South Korea) but kept you in the US, shunting you into the foster care system. I was horrified by this and cannot believe this doesn't get greater attention. They separated you from the only biological family member you had. Did they try and find her family in South Korea to see if they would take you in? It is unnecessarily cruel to cut off family ties like this without even trying to see if family would take you in. I think you mention this later in the book, how social services should try and keep children within their families (e.g., aunts, grandparents, etc.).

Will there be a transcript?

I should be mor definite, I mean a button so I can download the whole file, not watch a few lines of it at a time scrolling by without being able to turn off the sound.

I was lucky to have grown up in an intact family. I grew up in a lower working-class environment in an old industrial city in the northeast. I knew and hung around with kids like Rob. A few of us went on to do well. A few barely made it out of high school and either worked in the trades or menial jobs. Some didn't finish high school or even grade school and worked in the mills. A couple committed suicide. There was no pot then, but we drank large quantities of cheap beer. I understand where Rob's coming from.

"a few pockets in the highlands of Ecuador"

Did you mean the highlands of Colombia? Because I remember reading a paper mentioning some region(s) of Colombia. Ecuador would be interesting.
